Athirapally Waterfall
Athirapally falls, a popular picnic spot, is located as a distance of 78 kms from the buzzing town of Cochin in Kerala. Boasting of being 80 ft in length, the waterfall is a haven for flora and fauna alike. This gushing waterfall finds its source from Chalakudy River.

Swimming is a popular indulgence near the Athirapally waterfall but a few mishaps have led a camp of police to be positioned in the premises in order to take preventive steps. One can reach the Athirapally waterfall by taking the national highway that connects Tamil Nadu to Kerala. There are options of renting a private car or avail the tourist buses that ply regularly from the Chalakudy private bus terminal.
This waterfall has inspired many an eminent film maker to shoot some part of their film at the picturesque location. Some of the popular Bollywood blockbusters that have been shot here are Guru, Dil Se and most recently, Raavan.
The children’s water theme parks of Dreamworld and Silverstorm which are popular tourist attractions, are located nearby.
Vazhachal Waterfall
Sourcing its origin from the Chalakudy River, Vazhachal Falls are scenically located just 3 kms from the Athirapally falls in Thrissur district of Kerala. Classified as one of the finest waterfalls in India, Vazhachal Waterfall cascades on the edge of the Sholayar forest range in the state.
Gurgling down with great speed, the view of this waterfall is just splendid. The nearby Vazhachal Forest is a good place for enjoying the view of the flora and the fauna of the surroundings.
The best time to discover Vazhachal falls is during the months between June and October, when the monsoon is in full swing.
Athirappally and Vazhachal, the two scenic and popular waterfalls on the edge of the Sholayar forest ranges are just 5 km apart. The Athirappally Falls joins the Chalakkudy river after plummeting down a drop of 80 feet. Vazhachal also forms part of the Chalakkudy river. Both the waterfalls with their cool, misty waters cascading down in the backdrop of the thick green forest and rocky terrain, are a scintillating experience to the visitors. A good motorable road takes one to Vazhachal and Athirappally from either Kochi or Thrissur town which are 58 km and 63 km away respectively. The nearest railway station is at Thrissur and the nearest airport is in Kochi.
